Staff Selection Commission of India will soon start its recruitment for the post of Multi-Tasking Staff (SSC MTS). Like all other SSC exams, this exam is also conducted every year to fill the vacant post in central government offices.

For this exam, candidate needs to have minimum educational qualification i.e. matriculation.

As the exam is scheduled to be conducted in the coming month, the candidates should be well informed with the pattern of the exam, vacancy, eligibility, syllabus, and procedure of appointment. In this article, all the important detail are included.

SSC MTS Exam 2019

Staff Selection Commission will conduct the exam for the post of Multi-Tasking all over India.

Official notification is expected to be released soon, but Tentative Annual Calendar of SSC Examination to be held during the period of January 2019 to March 2020 says that notification will be released on 22nd April 9, 2019.

SSC MTS (Non-technical) recruitment

The Number of vacancy for the post of MTS will be notified in the official notification, which is expected to be released in the last week of April.

In 2019, 10,000+ posts are going to be filled in various governments departments and offices, so it is expected that this year too, around 10,000 vacancies will be declared.

Eligibility Criteria

Following are the eligibility criteria for a candidate appearing to SSC MTS.


  • The candidate should be the citizen of India or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan.
  • Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India can also apply for the post.


Candidate should age between 18-25 years. Relaxation in the upper age limit of the candidate is provided in some categories.

Educational Qualification

Considering the post for which appointment is made, the required educational qualification is matriculation or equivalent from a recognized board.

SSC MTS Exam Pattern

Like all other SSC exam, this exam is also conducted in two tiers:

TIER –I: Paper – I is a computer-based exam. Question asked in this paper are multiple choice questions (objective type).

NOTE: There will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

TIER –II: Paper –II is descriptive type were candidate needs to write an essay and an application/letter.

Paper – II will be of qualifying nature, this test is basically for checking the elementary language skill of the candidates.

Only those candidates will appear for the tier – II exam, who are able to attain the cut off marks that is set by the commission for different categories. This paper can be answered either in English or Hindi.

If anyone prefers to answer this paper in regional language, they can opt for any language that is mentioned in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution.

SSC MTS Exam Syllabus

The SSC MTS Exam syllabus is divided into 2 tiers. Tier I and Tier II.

Tier I mostly covers General Intelligence, Numerical Aptitude, English and General Awareness. Tier II (Descriptive) covers essays and letter/application writing.

**NOTE: Considering the post for which the recruitment is conducted, the questions will be asked accordingly. Question for General Intelligence and reasoning will be of non-verbal nature whereas question for Numerical Aptitude and General English will be simple and of matriculation level.

NOTE: This paper can be answered in English/Hindi. The main motive of this exam is to test the language skill of the candidates.

SSC MTS Job Profile

‘MULTI TASKING STAFF’ the name itself tells about the job. Their job will be of non-clerical in nature. They will have to assist in routine office work. The following tasks comes under the service of MTS job.

  • Maintenance of record,
  • Dispatch of mails,
  • Delivery of documents in head/branch office,
  • Sending or receiving of fax and photocopies.

How to apply for SSC MTS?

Application for SSC MTS exam can be filled through online link provided by Staff Selection Commission i.e.

Students can apply online after the official notification is published and the link is activated. The candidates are requested to apply before last date of the submission.

Application fee

The online application fee for SSC MTS is Rs. 100/- (one hundred only). This fee can be paid through any credit or debit card. For offline fee payment, the student can generate SBI challan and pay it in any of the branches of State Bank of India.

Some of the categories like Women, Schedule Cast, Schedule Tribe, Ex-Servicemen, and physically handicap are exempted from payment of the fee.


This exam requires the minimum educational qualification, so the number of applications for this exam is very high. Many of the candidates don’t want to join this post but they appear for the exam.
