Indian Railways recruit Group D staffs through RRB Group D exam which is conducted by RRB (Railway Recruitment Board) or RRC (Railway Recruitment Cell) every year.
The RRB/RRC Group D Exam 2019 is scheduled for the month of September – October 2019.
Exam Dates for RRB Group D 2019
RRB/RRC has published its notification for Group D exam. GROUP D exam is conducted for the post of Track Maintainer grade IV, helper/assistant, assistant pointsman level I post.

Eligibility criteria for RRB/RRC Group D exam
Eligibility criteria for this exam are mentioned below:
- The candidate should be the citizen of India only or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan.
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India, before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates will have to present their valid document at the time of document verification.
For Group D post minimum age of the candidate should be 18 years whereas the maximum age of the candidate can be 33 years as on 1 July 2019.
Relaxation in age is provided to women (widowed, divorced, judicially separated from husband but not married), candidate of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe, OBC, and Ex-servicemen.
For all Group D post candidate should be 10th Pass or ITI qualified from an institute that is recognized by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT)/State Council for Vocational Training(SCVT) or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.
Note: Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota has been introduced in railway under which a candidate can seek a reservation of 10% among the general category.
Exam Pattern for RRB/RRC Group D Exam
The RRB Group D exam is conducted in 2 stages
- Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Physical Efficiency Test (Qualifying)
The candidate will have to appear for two tests followed by document verification.
Computer Based Test (CBT)
Aspiring candidate will have to appear for a computer based online test. This exam will be of objective type with multiple choices. 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
The candidate will have to answer questions from four sections. They are:

**NOTE: Candidate of PwD category will get 120 minutes.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Those candidates who qualify and make it to the merit list are called for physical efficiency test (medical test). This test is done by doctors of Railway Hospital.
Physical Efficiency Test is of qualifying nature. In this test, candidates are marked by grade. For male and female candidate different criteria’s are set. These criteria are mention below:-
- Male candidate should be able to run 1 km in 4.15sec, in one chance and should be able to lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 min without putting it down.
- Female candidate should be able to run 1 km in 5.40sec, in one chance and should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 min without putting it down.
**NOTE: Candidates who appear for exam under Person with Benchmark Disabilities(PwBS) are not required to appear in PET but the will have to pass the medical examination set for PwBS candidates.
Document verification Process
After qualifying in both the stages, the candidates will be called for document verification. The entire document related to the candidate’s identity, educational degrees, caste certificate and documents that can prove their claim for age relaxation will be checked and verified.

Group D includes both technical and non-technical staff. Various posts that come under group D are –

Group D staffs can further appear for inter-departmental exams and can get higher promotions irrespective of the seniority level.
How to Apply for RRB/RRC Group D Exam?
Before filling of online form candidate will have to select from 16 RRC/RRB according to their preference which they want to apply for. Once this selection is made candidate will not be able to change it, so they need to be careful while filling the form.
They should have a valid email id and a mobile number so that they can receive all the notification sent by RRB to inform them about the exam and results.
The registration process will complete after filling all the information and payment of the fee. Payment of fee can be made through credit card, debit card or through internet banking.
Once you successfully complete your online application process E-receipt and application form carrying all your details will be generated. Candidate can keep a print out of these details for future reference.
Application fee for general candidate is Rs. 500/-, while for women, schedule tribe, schedule cast, Ex-servicemen, economically backward class, PwD, minority class, and transgender are Rs. 250/-

Group D staff of Indian railway gets a salary of level 01 of 7th CPC Pay matrix. The initial salary for this group staff is of Rs, 18,000/-
