I started my freelance writing business around five years back when I was still in college. I wanted to make a few quick bucks for pocket money.

Now, I knew nothing about the online money-making arena, no guide, no friends from this field, nothing! All I knew was I have a skill, I am studying copywriting as a subject and I want to use my skills and make money by writing.

It started with that seed and grew into this full-fledged business that is my primary source of income now.

I have worked on my blog and the freelance side hustle along with a full-time job all this while, it is only recently that I had the luxury to quit my high paying job.

So, I completely understand what it is like to manage a full-time job and a side hustle along with juggling your personal life simultaneously. Even thinking of which may give you tremors, I understand.

However, it offers you the freedom to work from anywhere, be your own boss, use all your creativity and skills in a way you think is right and make it work your way!

As they say, nothing comes easy and there are no shortcuts to the road to success. So, hard work and using smart tactics is the key.

If you are a freelance writer, graphic designer, website developer or a programmer working remotely, you probably know what I mean by working hard on your freelance business.

There is so much to do to grow and promote your business, bring in new clients, increase visibility, social media, deadlines, managing present clients, reworks, meetings, payment follow-ups and more! All this while handling your health, your family and your personal growth.

It doesn’t matter if you are the smartest person in the room but if you do not have the ability or the energy to complete a task or undertake a project due to your energy shortcomings, you have lost it!


Exercising and working out daily to keep this body fit is essential. It frees you from random thoughts, boosts your energy and makes you more productive!

All the successful people work-out and take care of their health.

Remember, no matter what your dreams are or how big your ambitions are, you cannot achieve them without this body to support you!

Eat right:

Another huge part of taking care of yourself is eating right.

Now, I seriously do not want to guide you with this as you are I believe an adult and understand what’s good for your body and what is not!

Now, let’s come to the point. How can you get the most out of your working hours? If you are a freelancer and have no fixed scheduled, things are bounded to turn stressful.

So, decide your working hours and keep aside a personal time where you do not open your laptop for work.

Say, for example, You decide to work from 10 am to 7 pm then get all your work done during that time without wasting your time or getting distracted. And after 7 pm, use your time for family and friends. Read or cook dinner, get that free head space for yourself!

Find out your prime working time:

Some people work best during the early morning time while some people are at their productive best during the night. Find out your working pattern.

What’s the time of the day when you are your most productive self and schedule big tasks during that time while keeping the less tedious tasks for later. It is the most intelligent thing to do as a freelancer. Use your time well!


Create a no disturbance zone for yourself when you work. Tell your parents, siblings or roommates not to disturb you during your work hours.

Lock yourself up and get work done. No phone calls, no messages, no social media, no surfing, just get work done.

Another useful tip is don’t just resist the temptation to check your phone, you may fail, but, keep your phone in some other room while you get that article done or that design completed.

Focus on just one thing at a time:

Do not multi-task. Take one thing and finish it fully. Then take up the next and finish it. Take one thing and be less confused. Tick off your to-do-list like a boss!

Create with joy:

Freelancing can be stressful, and you need to remind yourself constantly that why did you choose this life. When you have 10 deadliness over your head, you might hate your job and curse everyone around you.

However, you have 10 deadlines that mean you have 10 jobs to do for which you are going to get paid which may not be the case for so many people.

Feel grateful and create with joy in order to bring in abundance. Keep a check on yourself if you are creating with anxiety and turn things around.

Do not underestimate making to-do-lists:

To-do- lists help you stay focused, give you direction and set your goals for the day. They are your savior.

Organize and plan:

Plan your day in advance i.e. make your to-do-list for the next day, the night prior so you wake up with a plan and another weekday is not wasted doing random stuff. You know what needs to be finished today and you’re most likely to get the right things done.

Choose your projects and clients carefully:

If you are feeling overworked and burned out lately, it is time to reflect what went wrong. Are your present clients draining too much out of you and not paying enough? Choose clients and projects that will help you grow and shun the ones that leave you feeling deteriorated.

Take timely and smart breaks:

Just taking random breaks is not always effective. What you do in your breaks also matters!

Reading websites and checking e-mails, involves almost same mental processes that we use when we are working. This actually makes fatigue worse!!
