After the Indian Army, the Indian Territorial Army is the second line of the defense. Unlike the Regular Indian Army Territorial Army comprises of soldiers that serve for a few months in a year. The territorial army comprises of several entities Infantries Battalions, Home and Hearth Infantry, Ecological Task Forces, Air Defence Artillery, Railway Industrial Units, and many more.

The exam is conducted separately for civilians and Ex-Servicemen. The selection process for civilians includes a written exam, SSB interview round, Medical test, and final selection. Ex-Servicemen only undergo the interview process followed by a medical examination and, finally, police verification. The vacancy available for male and female candidates is determined as per the organizational requirement.

The Commission is granted in the rank of Lieutenant, and the pay and allowances given to the candidate are similar to a regular army officer. Candidates can be promoted up to Lt Col, depending on the fulfillment of criteria.

Territorial Army Exam Eligibity Criteria 2021

  1. Nationality
  2. Candidate must be a citizen of India.

  3. Educational Qualification
  4. Candidate must have completed their graduation from a recognized university.

  5. Age Limit
  6. The age of the candidate to appear in the Territorial Army Exam should be minimum of 18 years and maximum of 42 years.

  7. Restrictions on Attempts
  8. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the examination as long as the candidate fulfils the eligibility criteria.

Territorial Army Eligibility for Ex-Servicemen

• Only Ex-Service Officers can apply for the post. Candidate must be mentally and physically fit.
• Serving member of the Regular Army/ Navy/ Air Force/ Police/ GREF/Para Military and other forces are not eligible for the exam.

Territorial Army Exam Pattern 2021

Important points regarding the pattern of the exam:

  • Territorial Army Selection Process for Official Civilians – Candidates that apply for the examination are called for the screening process. The screening process compromises of a written exam and an interview round. The interview is conducted by the Preliminary Interview Board by the Territorial Army Group Headquarters respectively. Candidates successfully clearing the round will have to undergo tests at a Service Selection Board (SSB) and Medical Board for the final selection. The organizational candidate determines the availability of vacancy for male and female candidates.
  • Territorial Army Selection Process for Ex-Servicemen – Ex-Servicemen will be screened by the Army Headquarters Selection Board (ASB) at the Additional Directorate General Territorial Army. They undergo medical examination performed at the Armed Forces Clinic, finally followed by Police Verification.

Pattern for Objective Type Test (OMR Based)

The written test of the Territorial Army for Civilians is divided into two papers I and II. The papers are further divided into two parts, I and II. Part I comprise two sections, Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics. Part II consists of General Knowledge and English. Each paper will be for 2 hours. The test paper will have 100 questions. The total marks allotted to the test are 100.
