Staff Selection Commission will hold an open competitive Examination for recruitment of Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Quantity Surveying & Contracts) for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India. The posts are Group „B‟ (Non-Gazetted), in Level-6 (Rs 35400- 112400/-) of pay matrix of 7th Central Pay Commission.
Working as a Junior Engineer under SSC is considered one of the most respected jobs. It is a central government job. Recruited candidates from the SSC JE exam will be posted under Group B Non-Gazetted category. Junior engineers are responsible for developing plans making calculations for a variety of elements within an engineering project.

SSC JE Exam Eligibity Criteria 2021
- Nationality
- Citizen of India
- Subject of Nepal
- Subject of Bhutan
- Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 intending to permanently settle down in the country.
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from counties like Pakistan, Vietnam, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, United Republic of Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zaire and Malawi with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
The candidate should have completed his or her degree/diploma in Civil or Mechanical or Electrical engineering as of January 1st, 2020.
For Junior Engineer, CPWD, and Central Water Commission – 32 years as on January 1st, 2020
For Junior Engineer, MES and other departments – 30 years
However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to the reserved categories. They are given below in the table:

There is no restrictions to the number of attempts for the examination as long as the candidate fits into the age criteria.

SSC JE Exam Pattern 2021
Important points regarding the pattern of the examination
- This exam contains two Papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- Paper 1 is an objective type test conducted in online mode whereas Paper 2 is a descriptive exam conducted in offline mode. The weightage of marks in Paper 1 is of 200 marks and Paper 2 is of 300 marks.
- There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer applicable in Paper 1 only.
- The paper 1 is divided into 3 sections – General Intelligence, General Awareness and General Engineering (Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical).
- Candidates have to appear in either one of the streams of General Engineering in both Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- Paper 2 is a descriptive paper and questions will be based on the candidates’ specialization in Engineering.
