SBI conduct this test to select eligible candidates to recruit probationary officers in their various branches who must be intelligent and smart enough to deal with the tough job of banking. The exam is taken in three phases. The Preliminary Test, which is conducted to filter fewer eligible candidates from a large number of applicants. Candidates who pass this phase permitted to sit for Main exam. Selected candidates from Main are called for Group Discussion and Interview. The candidates who clear this phase get the job.

Aspirants has to fill up and submit the application form online on the official website of SBI along with the fees. Application fee for general category has to pay 750 rupees. Fees for SC/ST/PWD is 125 rupees, which is only the intimation charges. The fees are non-refundable. Then admit cards will be uploaded on the official website which the applicants have to download.

Candidates has to appear for Preliminary exam at the allotted centre. While filling the form applicants have to fill up exam centre of their choice from the given list of exam centres in the prospectus. The result will be declared online. Selected candidates for Main exam have to download admit cards issued separately. May be more than 2000 vacancies are there for which the exam will be conducted. This year due to pandemic situation the exam is delayed by 3-4 months.

SBI PO Examination Eligibity Criteria 2020

  1. Nationality
    • Indian
    • An Indian origin who has migrated from countries like Pakistan, Burma, Vietnam, Sri Lanka or East African, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zaire, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and intended to settle in India

  2. Educational Qualification
  3. Graduation or equivalent in any discipline from a recognised University

  4. Age Limit
  5. The age of the candidate to appear in the SBI PO examination should be minimum of 21 years and maximum of 30 years.
    However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to the reserved categories. They are given below in the table.

SBI PO Examination Pattern 2020

Important points regarding the pattern of the examination

  • The Preliminary exam round is of one hour and is conducted online. The exam carries 100 marks and consists of three sections, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability. All the papers are multiple choice type.
  • The Main exam is conducted among the qualified candidates from preliminary test. This phase of the exam consists of both objective and descriptive type questions. Duration of the exam is three hours and thirty minutes.
  • The shortlisted candidates from this phase are called for final phase of the exam which comprises of group discussion and interview. In this round, questions related to personal interest, educational background, career objectives, current affairs or questions related to Banking awareness are asked.

Pattern for GD and Interview

The candidates who have qualified the mains exam are called for a face to face interview. The minimum qualifying marks in the interview is 40% for general candidates (35% for other caste candidates).

Syllabus for GD and Interview

There is no specific syllabus for interview. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only a candidate’s intellectual qualities but also social traits and interest in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, the balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, the ability for social cohesion, LEADERSHIP, and intellectual and moral integrity.

Selection criteria for Group Exercise and Interview:

Category wise merit list will be drawn on the basis of the aggregate marks scored in the Main Examination. There will be
no sectional cut-off.
