Every year Railway Recruitment Board recruits eligible candidates for the post of Senior Section Engineer (SSE) in various disciplines. RRB JE and RRB SSE are the most coveted exams which give the opportunity to the fresh engineering graduates to serve in the Indian Railways. The SSE Exam is conducted by the Board at a regular interval with a maximum gap of 2 years.

RRB SSE Exam Eligibity Criteria 2021

  1. Nationality
  2. A candidate must be either:
    a. a citizen of India, or
    b. a subject of Nepal, or
    c. a subject of Bhutan, or
    d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
    e. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
    f. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e)above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
    (ii) A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

  3. Educational Qualification
  4. The candidate should hold a 4 years Bachelor Degree (B.E/ B.Tech) from any recognized university.

  5. Age Limit
  6. The age of the candidate to appear in the RRB SSE Exam should be minimum of 20 years and maximum of 34 years.
    However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to the reserved categories. They are given below in the table:

    By 5 years to candidates who have ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989 (OBC) 43 years
    By 5 years to candidates who have ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989 (SC/ST) 45 years
    Widow/divorced women and women judicially separated from husband but not remarried (Unreserved) 35 years
    Widow/divorced women and women judicially separated from husband but not remarried (OBC) 38 years
    Widow/divorced women and women judicially separated from husband but not remarried (SC/ST) 40 years

  7. Restrictions on Attempts
  8. There is no limit in the attempt restriction as long as candidate fulfills the age criteria.

RRB SSE Exam Pattern 2021

Important points regarding the pattern of the exam:

  • The RRB SSE Exam comprises two stages including a Written Exam and a Personal Interview.
  • The Written exam is an online exam that comprises an objective type of questions.
  • The exam carries a total of 150 marks for 150 questions.
  • The duration of the written exam is 2 hours.
  • The written exam comprises four sections namely General Intelligence and reasoning, General Awareness, Arithmetic, and Technical Subjects.
