Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test is conducted by the Office of the Commissioner for Government Examinations to recruit qualified candidates for the posts of Primary, Upper Primary and High School within the state of Kerala.

The Teacher Eligibility Test, known as TET, is the minimum qualification required in India for a person to be eligible for an appointment as a teacher. The test is mandatory for teaching jobs in Indian government schools. With the introduction of TET, the Government of Kerala conducts the exam to select teachers for Category I (Lower Primary classes), Category II (Upper Primary classes) Category III (High School classes) and Category IV ( for Language Teachers) – Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu
(up to UP classes), Specialist Teachers (Art & Craft) and Physical Education teachers.

Kerala TET Exam Eligibity Criteria 2021

  1. Nationality
  2. The candidate must be a citizen of India.

  3. Educational Qualification
  4. Category I (Lower Primary Classes)

    • Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary or (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and two years Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) [by whatever name known] conducted by Board of Examination, Govt. of Kerala or its equivalent. OR
    • Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations 2002. OR
    • Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd). OR
    • Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).

    Category II (Upper Primary Classes)

    • BA/BSc/BCom and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education/Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) [by whatever name known] conducted by Board of Examination, Govt. of Kerala or its equivalent. OR
    • BA/BSc/BCom with at least 45% marks and 1 year Bachelor in Education (BEd), in accordance with NCTE (Recognition, Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard. OR
    • Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4 year Bachelor in Elementary Education (BElEd). OR
    • Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year BA/B.Sc.Ed or BA Ed or B.Sc.Ed.

    Category III (High School Classes)

    • BA/BSc/BCom with at least 45% marks and a B.Ed. Degree in the subject concerned (from any one of the Universities in Kerala or have acquired these qualifications from any other Universities recognised as equivalent thereto)
    • For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, those who have MScEd Degree in the subject concerned with not less than 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT will be eligible to apply. For Botany and Zoology subjects, those with an M.Sc.Ed Degree in Life Science with not less than 50% marks from any of the Regional Institutes of Education is eligible to apply.
    • BA or equivalent with at least 45% marks and who passed in LTTC are eligible to apply.

    Category IV (Language, Specialist and Physical Education Teacher)

    • Language Teacher: Degree in a Language and B. Ed./B.T./L.T Conferred or recognised by the Universities in Kerala.
    • Drawing Teacher:  A pass in S. S. L.C Examination conducted by the Commissioner for Government Examinations, Kerala; or its equivalent and Certificate in Drawing and painting (two-year Certificate in Sculpture and Modeling (2-year course) issued by the Commissioner for Government Examinations Kerala course) issued by the Commissioner for Government Examinations, Kerala OR Diploma in painting issued by the Commissioner for Government Examinations, Kerala Or Group Diploma in Drawing, K. G. T. E. OR M. G. T.
    • Physical Education Teachers: A pass in S.S.L.C. Examination conducted by the Commissioner for Government Examinations, Kerala OR its equivalent and Certificate of Physical Education issued by the Commissioner for Government Examinations, Kerala.

  5. Age Limit
  6. The minimum age to appear in the Kerala TET examination is 21 years.

  7. Restrictions on Attempts
  8. There is no restriction on the number of attempts.

Kerala TET Exam Pattern 2021

  • There is only one paper carrying 150 marks for each category.
  • In category I and II, Language II shall be a language other than Language I. A candidate may choose any one language from among the available options while submitting the application form

Kerala TET Exam Syllabus 2021

Syllabus for Category I

1 Paper I

  • Child Development and Pedagogy: The syllabus shall focus on understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with a focus on understanding for characteristics and needs of diverse, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
  • Mathematics & Environmental Studies: The test items of Mathematics and Environmental Studies shall focus on the concepts, problem-solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of the subjects. In all these subject areas, the test items shall be evenly distributed over different divisions of the syllabus of that subject prescribed for classes I – V by SCERT.
  • Language I (Malayalam/ Tamil/ Kannada): The test items for Language – I (Malayalam/Kannada/Tamil) shall focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction as chosen by the candidate at the time of submitting the application.
  • Language II- English/Arabic: Language II shall be from the prescribed options other than Language I. Candidates can choose any one language from the available language options and the same shall be specified in the application form. The test items in Language II focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.

Syllabus for Category II

1 Paper II

  • Child Development and Pedagogy: They will focus on understanding the characteristics, needs and psychology of diverse learners, interaction with learners and attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
  • Mathematics, Science and Social Studies: These subjects shall focus on the concepts, problem-solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these subjects. The test items of Mathematics and Science shall be for 30 marks each. The test items shall be evenly distributed over different divisions of the syllabus of that subject as prescribed for classes V-VIII by SCERT, Kerala.
  • Language I (Malayalam/Tamil/Kannada/English): The language I paper will focus on the proficiency related to the medium of instruction as chosen from the list of prescribed options in the application form.
  • Language II-(Other than Language I) Malayalam/English: Language II shall be a language other than Language I. A candidate may choose any one language from among the available options while submitting the application form. The candidate has to attempt the related language applied for. The test items in Language II shall also focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.

Points Related to the Category II

In paper II, candidates will have to select any of the subjects between Mathematics/Science and Social Studies. Other subjects are compulsory for all.

Syllabus for Category III

1 Paper I

  • Adolescent Psychology, Theories of Learning and Teaching Aptitude: The test items on Adolescent Psychology, theories of Learning & Teaching Aptitude will focus on the educational psychology, principles and approaches of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 13-17. They will focus on understanding the characteristics, needs and psychology of diverse learners, interaction with the learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
  • Language (Malayalam/English/Tamil/Kannada): The test items for Language (Malayalam/ English/ Tamil/ Kannada) will focus on the proficiency related to the medium of instruction.
  • Subject-specific areas (Content & Pedagogy): The test items in subject-specific areas will focus on the pedagogical understanding, concepts and ideas of the subjects concerned.

1 Paper I

  • Child Development, Pedagogy & Teacher Aptitude: Questions will focus on understanding the characteristics, needs and psychology of diverse learners, interaction with the learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
  • Language (Malayalam/English/Tamil/Kannada): The test item for Language (Malayalam/ English/ Tamil/ Kannada) will focus on the proficiency related to the medium of instruction.
