The exam is conducted every year by the Investigation Bureau for recruiting eligible candidates for the post of Security assistant. The Intelligence Bureau or IB is the Indian internal intelligence agency whose function is to execute counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism tasks. The job is considered the most prestigious and paramount position to kick start one’s career.

The job offers an All India post, allowing candidates to work all over the country. Candidates chosen have the role of carrying out security patrols and checks. Security Assistants will be responsible for the basic security of the premises of the IB officers and centers. Handling of security surveillance devices such as Electronic, two-way radios, Alarm systems etc. The security Assistant also assists IB ACIO in his work. Surveillance and intelligence gathering on the ground is also the assistant’s duty.

IB Security Asst. Exam Eligibity Criteria 2021

  1. Nationality
  2. Candidates must be a citizen of India.

  3. Educational Qualification
    • Matriculation (10th class pass) or equivalent from a recognized Board of Education, and
    • Knowledge of any one of the local language/dialect mentioned in Table ‘A’ above against each SIB/Centre of examination.
    • Desirable: Field experience in Intelligence work.

  4. Age Limit
  5. The age of the candidate to appear in the IB Security Asst. examination should be minimum of 18 years and maximum of 27 years.
    However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to the reserved categories. They are given below in the table:

  6. Restrictions on Attempts
  7. There is no such restriction on the number of attempts as long as the age criteria is being fulfilled.

IB Security Asst. Exam Pattern 2021

Important points regarding the pattern of the examination:

  • The exam is conducted in three stages, Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III.
  • The Tier-I examination is a written exam with MCQs, and the paper is divided into three subjects.
  • Candidates only on clearing Tier-I are eligible for the Tier-II exam.
  • Tier-II is divided into two parts. The first part is the descriptive question part, and the second part is to test the candidate’s spoken ability test. However, the spoken ability is tested in Tier-III during the personal test/interview round.
  • Candidates clearing Tier-II are eligible for the interview process in TierIII.

Syllabus for Tier-II

1 Translation Test

Translation of a passage of 500 words from a local language or dialect to English and vice versa.

2 Spoken Ability Test

There is no specific syllabus for the Spoken ability test. The test is only to test the speaking ability of the candidate.

Syllabus for Tier-III (Interview/ Personality Test)

There is no specific syllabus for interview. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only a candidate’s intellectual qualities but also social traits and interest in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, the balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, the ability for social cohesion, LEADERSHIP, and intellectual and moral integrity
