IBPS PO Exam is the exam that is conducted annually by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection for recruiting the suitable candidates as Probationary Officers in the nationalized and government banks of India.

Candidates appointed as Probationary Officers are responsible for various banking activities for different sections of the banks including finance, billing, accounting, marketing, investment, etc. They are also responsible for handling customer transactions which is one of the major functions of any bank.

The exam is conducted online every year in three simple steps. The three step procedure of the exam includes Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and an Interview Round. The first two rounds i.e., the Preliminary Exam and the Mains Exam is an objective paper while the Interview round is a one-on-one personal interview round conducted for the shortlisted candidates.

The IBPS PO Exam is conducted to recruit suitable candidates for the above mentioned job purpose. IBPS PO exam aims at gauging the candidate’s command over various subjects including English Language, Reasoning Ability, Numeric Ability, General Knowledge and Awareness, and Banking Knowledge.

IBPS PO Exam Eligibity Criteria 2021

  1. Nationality
  2. A candidate must be either –
    (i) a Citizen of India or
    (ii) a subject of Nepal or
    (iii) a subject of Bhutan or
    (iv) a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently
    settling in India or
    (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

  3. Educational Qualification
  4. A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognised by the Govt. Of India or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

    The candidate must possess valid Mark-sheet / Degree Certificate that he/ she is a graduate on the day he / she registers and indicate the percentage of marks obtained in Graduation while registering online.

  5. Age Limit
  6. The age of the candidate to appear in the IBPS PO Exam should be minimum of 20 years and maximum of 30 years.
    However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to the reserved categories. They are given below in the table:

  7. Restrictions on Attempts
  8. No restriction on the number of attempts as long as the age criteria is being fulfilled.

IBPS PO Exam Pattern 2021

Important points regarding the pattern of exam:

  • There are two levels of examinations: Preliminary exam and Mains exam.
  • The IBPS PO Exam is conducted online as it is a computer-based exam and comprises of multiple-choice questions.
  • There is also a Descriptive Test for the English Language.

Pattern for Interview

The candidates who have qualified the mains exam are called for a face to face interview which carries a maximum of 100 marks. The minimum qualifying marks in the interview is 40% for general candidates (35% for other caste candidates).

Syllabus for Interview

There is no specific syllabus for interview. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only a candidate’s intellectual qualities but also social traits and interest in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, the balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, the ability for social cohesion, LEADERSHIP, and intellectual and moral integrity.
