Haryana Civil Services exam is conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission to recruit qualified candidates in various administrative posts like HCS (Ex. Br.), DSP, ETO etc.
This exam is highly competitive, and to have an edge in it, careful planning, meticulous preparation, and unwavering dedication is required. Thousands of candidates appear annually in this exam, and the availability of services is subjected to vary based on the number of vacancies available in the particular year.

HCS Exam Eligibity Criteria 2021
- Nationality
- a citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or
- a subject of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1 st January,1962with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, 9 Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

A candidate must be either:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor Degree from a recognized University.
For the post of DSP, a candidate should not be less than 18 years and not more than 27 years of age
However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to the reserved categories. They are given below in the table:

There is no attempt restriction for the candidates provided the upper age limit has not been exceeded.

HCS Exam Pattern 2021
This exam consists of three stages:
Stage I: Preliminary exam consists of two papers of objective type carrying 200 for each paper.
Stage II: Main Exam consists of four papers of descriptive type.
Stage III: This stage consists of a Personality Test.

Total marks allotted: 75The candidates shall be interviewed by the board constituted by the Haryana Public Service Commission.

1 Prelims Paper I: General Studies
- General Science
- Current events of national and international importance.
- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography
- Indian Culture, Indian Polity and Indian Economy.
- General Mental Ability
- Haryana-Economy and people. Social, economic and culture institutions and language of Haryana
2 Prelims Paper II: Civil Services Aptitude Test
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy

1 Mains Paper I: English and English Essay
- Precis Writing
- Comprehension of given passages
- Usage and Vocabulary

2 Mains Paper II: Hindi and Hindi Essay
- Translation of an English passage into Hindi.
- Letter/Precis writing.
- Explanation of Hindi passage (prose and poetry) in the same language.
- Composition (idioms, correction etc.).
- Essay on a specific topic. The choice of subjects will be given.
3 Mains Paper III: General Studies

Syllabus for Personality Test
In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only a candidate’s intellectual qualities but also social traits and interest in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, the balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, the ability for social cohesion, LEADERSHIP, and intellectual and moral integrity.
