Regional Medical Research Centre, NE Region is one of the six Regional Centres of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) situated at Dibrugarh, Assam. It was established in 1982 and runs with an intramural grant from ICMR and extramural ad hoc projects from different funding agencies. It covers the most remote and less developed eight states of the north-eastern region of India and is responsible for carrying out Biomedical Research in the region.
Its current primary focus of research is on:
- Mosquito-borne diseases
- HIV and drug abuse
- Trematode infection
While the secondary focus of research of the Center is on
- Cancer nasopharynx, esophagus, stomach
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Medicinal plants of NE India
- Nutrition. etc.
