Morigaon district is one of the 33 administrative districts of the state of Assam in India. The district headquarters is located at Morigaon.
Morigaon district occupies an area of 1,704 square kilometers. The district is bounded by the mighty Brahmaputra on the North, Karbi Anglong district on the South, Nagaon District on the East and Kamrup District on the West. The greater part of the district is an alluvial plain, crisscrossed with numerous rivers and water ways and dotted with many beels and marshes. The mighty Brahmaputra flows along with the northern boundary of the district.
Deputy Commissioner is the Administrative Head of the District. The Deputy Commissioner is entrusted with overall responsibility for law and order, implementation of government schemes and is also authorised to hear revenue cases pertaining to the district. He/she is also authorised to collect Land Revenue and is therefore also referred collector (revenue) and also to control encroachment of government land in the district.
