10 Practical Tips to Crack Haryana TET

The Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted to recruit eligible candidates for the posts of teacher in Primary and Upper primary schools across the states. The test is mandatory for teaching jobs in Indian government schools.

With the introduction of TET, Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Haryana to recruit qualified candidates for the posts of Primary Teacher (PRT), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), and Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) in schools run by the Haryana State Government.

Preparation Tips

1. Be Familiar with the Exam

It is not possible to get a successful result in an exam without becoming familiar with the exam. You should know the syllabus and exam pattern. By knowing the syllabus you will be able to get an idea about the topics. Whereas the exam pattern will introduce you to the marks distribution and question pattern.

The Haryana TET exam is conducted separately for Primary, Upper Primary and Higher Secondary School teachers. Each category consists of one paper. The syllabus for the paper of Primary teacher includes Child Development and Pedagogy, Languages (Hindi and English), General Studies and Mathematics and Environmental Studies.

The only difference between the papers of Primary, Upper Primary school teachers and Post Graduate Teacher is that optional paper is included in place of Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Each paper is objective in nature that carries a total of 150 marks. There is no negative marking.

2. Prepare a Study Plan

A study plan is necessary to maintain a healthy environment of study. By preparing a study plan you will be able to manage your time effectively. Try to schedule the same subject at the same time. Thus your brain will be able to make associations and remember faster.

Schedule difficult subjects in the morning. As in the morning, your brain becomes fresh, you will retain information and understand faster.

Besides scheduling the subjects, you should also schedule other activities including time of sleeping, eating etc. Thus you will be able to determine how much time you are devoting to studies and other activities.

3. Study Regularly

You should study regularly to complete the syllabus on time. When you do regular study, you will build a habit of studying and you won’t get distracted.

While studying, if you apply the Pomodoro technique, your productivity will increase and you will be able to manage your time effectively. Pomodoro technique is about taking small breaks during a big task. If you are studying a topic continuously for 25 minutes you take a break of five minutes.

4. Prepare Notes

Prepare notes from the initial stage of preparation. By preparing notes, you will be able to revise topics without any difficulty when the exam is near. Try to make notes in an easy and comprehensible manner. Keep the sentences short.

You may also use pens of different colours to write so that you can differentiate between the answers and examples.  When you prepare notes, you also build the habit of writing answers which is beneficial for you as it helps to increase the speed of writing answers in the exam.

5. Revise

Revision is very important to retain the information you have studied earlier. Therefore, try to schedule extra time for revision. Write down important topics on paper and stick these to the walls of your study room. Keep an aim to complete your syllabus much before the exam. Thus you will be able to get sufficient time to do revision.

There are many revision techniques including flashcards, mind maps, group work etc. You will have to figure out which one works for you. You should keep in mind one thing that what works well for one exam may not work for others.

6. Take Care of Health

Health plays an important role in achieving anything in life. As you have heard the saying ” a sound mind is only possible in a sound body.” Therefore, to keep your body healthy and strong, you should maintain a healthy diet.

When you prepare for an exam, there may be a possibility that you may fall ill due to much stress and hard work. Therefore, to get proper nutrition, you should eat those foods that are enriched with vitamins and minerals. You should also take sufficient sleep and do exercise regularly.

7. Do Meditation

Meditation helps you to calm your mind and reduce stress. While doing meditation you concentrate on your breath without thinking about anything. When you do this your mind becomes calm and stress-free.

By doing meditation, your concentration and memory power will also increase. Thus you will be able to retain information for a longer period of time.

1. Child Development and Pedagogy

Child Development and Pedagogy is a subject that focuses on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years. The subject also focuses on understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.

Although there are many books available on this subject, you may buy a book titled “Child Development and Pedagogy for CTET and STET” by Shalini Punjabi.

2. Languages

You will have to prepare for both Hindi and English. It will test your proficiencies related to the medium of instruction. You should have basic knowledge of grammar. Buy any primary level grammar book and clear your concept. Thereafter go through a grammar book according to the level of the exam.

3. General Studies

General Studies include Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, Haryana G.K and Awareness. You will have to prepare for these subjects separately. You may buy the following books given in the list.

To prepare for Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning, you should emphasise clearing your basic concept. Try to remember the formulas and methods. The only way to remember these formulas and methods are to apply them while practising questions.

To prepare for G.K and Awareness, you should read newspapers and other magazines. Note down important points related to general awareness so that you can revise them when the exam is near. Since General Awareness encompasses various topics, you should devote much time to this subject.
