IBPS PO exam is conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection for recruiting suitable candidates as Probationary Officers in the nationalised banks and government banks in India.

Probationary officers are responsible for various banking activities for different sections of the banks including finance, billing, accounting, marketing, investment etc.

The exam is conducted every year in three parts. These are the Preliminary exam, Main exam and Interview.  The first two rounds i.e., the Preliminary Exam and the Mains Exam is objective paper while the Interview round is a one-on-one personal interview round conducted for the shortlisted candidates.

Although lakhs of aspirants appear for this exam every year only a few get selected for the posts. Since this is one of the highly competitive exams, a candidate should prepare for the exam very carefully.

Preparation Tips

1. Know the Syllabus and Exam Pattern

Before starting the preparation for an exam you must go through the syllabus. The syllabus helps you to get an idea about the topics. By going through the topics you are able to keep aside the less important topics and you can save your valuable time.

Exam pattern is also important to get an idea about the exam. You may go through the previous years question paper to know about the exam pattern. By going through the exam pattern you may know about the marks distribution and question pattern.

2. Collect Study Materials

After going through the syllabus and exam pattern, you should collect study materials from reliable sources. You should also do proper research before buying the books. One good book is sufficient for one subject. More than one books for one subject make you more confused.

Buy those books which are easy to be read and which are written in a way to clear the basic concept.

3. Study Regularly

You must study regularly to complete the syllabus on time and you also get time for revision. Regular study helps you to keep pace with the syllabus and you are able to cover all the subjects equally.

Try to follow the Pomodoro technique while studying. This technique is about taking short breaks while doing a big task. For example, if you are reading continuously for 25 minutes, you should take a break for five minutes. It will save you from being exhausted and increase your productivity.


4. Revise

Revision helps you to retain the information for a longer period of time. When you keep revising a topic you won’t forget easily. Thus you will be stress-free before the exam. Moreover, it will also help you by saving your time as you will be able to remember the topics easily when you keep revising the topics from much earlier.

5. Prepare a Study Plan

A study plan always helps you to be disciplined. When you follow a good study plan, you become confident enough regarding the exam. Try to stick to the study plan.

Try to study the same subject at the same time and place. Thus your brain will be able to make an association and will remember properly.

6. Time Management

Time management is an important skill. Effective time management allows us to do more tasks in less time. But many of us don’t have that skill and we invest our time by indulging in some unimportant tasks.

The same situation applies in the case of exams also. To manage your time you should utilise your time very wisely. Try to avoid spending a lot of time on social media or watching television etc.

7. Take Care of Health

Health is the most essential thing to get success in anything. You should eat healthy food like fruit, vegetables and drink plenty of water and try to avoid junk food.

When you will be healthy, your productivity will increase and won’t get disturbed by illness easily. It will also help you to focus more on your studies.


8. Do Meditation

Like physical health, mental health is also important. Meditation is one of the best options to take care of your mental health.

Meditation is also very important to reduce your stress which helps you to stay calm. When you are calm you can take the decision easily.

Meditation also helps you to concentrate for a longer period of time and increase memory power.

9. Don’t Panic

Don’t be panic during the exam. It will put you in trouble rather than solve your problem. When you are panic you are unable to do a task properly. Thus it will reduce the rate of your success in the exam.

Try to be positive. A positive mindset is always beneficial to attempt the questions in the right way.

10. Reach the Venue Early

Try to reach the venue of the examination at the specified time mentioned on the hall ticket. If you reach the venue late you will feel stressed. A stressed mind also gets nervous and confused which may impact your mind.

To have a calm and stress-free mind is important to think properly. Moreover, by reaching the venue on time you will be able to adapt to the environment of the exam.
